History Lesson? History Doesn't Teach Lessons

Then there's This - and many many more history sites that tell the story of England.
"449 40 years after the Romans have left, Vortigen a local ruler in Kent, invites Jutes from Jutland Denmark, as mercenaries to fight against the invading Picts and Scots.
455 Having beaten the Picts and Scots they turn on Vortigen ... "

These two scenarios are by no means lonely.

Even I am aware of the consequences of certain choices made by people a long time ago, choices that impacted their world and contributed to the development of the one we now live in.

I found on line a video that kind of touched on the concept I'm thinking of, although not exactly in reference to history.

The two instances that are on my mind today are not new ones by any stretch of the imagination. I've yammered a bit about them before.

Current events have brought them again to the fore of my mind.

What happened when the Roman Empire hired and depended on others (mercenaries) to do their fighting for them?

What happened when England did the same thing?

Just sayin'.

You're not going to get a history lesson here.

Apparently History doesn't teach lessons.

(it's a camel's nose)

These represent some of what you'll hear all over the place if you listen. Whether or not you happen to agree with them, these sentiments are among us. I suppose how you take them depends on your perspective.
